Bruce Christopher: Self-Appointed Legend
 |
| Keep your eyes on the ball: Christopher bridges over an obstacles.

The second main reason for Christopher's fame was that he associated himself very tightly with Minnesota Fats, who was, as we all know, the most famous pool player ever to walk the earth. Superstroke and Fats played several exhibitions together over the years, and as a result Superstroke ended up getting a bit of media coverage. Superstroke himself acknowledges riding Fats' coattails.
I poked around over several days looking for Christopher and finally came across a phone number in Ontario, Canada. A call there led me to California, specifically the Los Angeles area, where I found Christopher apparently employed in real estate. He's divorced now and has two children - 17-year-old Bruce and 10-year-old Robert - both of whom he speaks of with great fondness. He recently returned to L.A. from Canada, where he said he spent a year or so living with his mother.
During the course of several interviews, Christopher urgently explained to me that he's a "number-one player and promoter," that he's been "having a wonderful life," that he "never did drugs" and that he pals around with millionaires. It also didn't take him long to proclaim his return to greatness. "I'm excited, because it looks like it'll be a repeat of the '70s and '80s," said the now 50-something Superstroke. "I'm back. It seems that God has opened the door again. There's a lot of media. A lot of press. I'm making myself available."
