BCA 9-Ball Nears Single-Elimination
Jun 10, 2008, 6:15 PM

The GenerationPool.com 9-Ball Championships — held alongside the BCA trade expo at the Charlotte (N.C.) Convention Center — are closing in the quarterfinals, when play will switch to a single-elimination bracket.

In the women's event, the final eight players have been determined. Allison Fisher will face rising star Anna Kostanian, who bounced back from a loss to Karen Corr by topping Jeanette Lee, 9-4.

Corr will face Xiaoting Pan, with the winner facing the Fisher-Kostanian victor. On the bottom of the bracket, Gerda Hofstatter, currently ranked second on the WPBA, will face Jasmin Ouschan, and Ga Young Kim will meet Kelly Fisher.

The men's tournament, which started with a field of 32, is one round away from finalizing the final eight. Four players are set in the quarterfinals, advancing through the winners' bracket. Johnny Archer, Jeremy Jones, Shawn Putnam and Ronnie Wiseman advanced, each winning three straight matches.

They will wait to draw an opponent from the one-loss side. This evening, Mika Immonen will face Charlie Bryant; Stevie Moore will take on Tony Crosby; Tony Chohan will play Gabe Owen; and Raj Hundal awaits the winner of the Thorsten Hohmann Ramil Gallego match.

Quarterfinal matches will begin Wednesday at noon, with the semifinals that evening at 7 p.m. (EST).

Thursday night, the women's final is set for 7 p.m. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Allen Hopkins and Pat Fleming will take place afterwards, followed by the men's final.
